Eye Injury Treatment CT - First Aid for Eye Injuries
Just as keeping your eyes looking good is important, keeping them out of harm’s way is just as important. Taking good care of your eyes is vital, and preventing any harm or damage to them is part of the process. You never know when debris might blow into your eye or if you might get injured while working, playing, or even by accident. So it’s important to take precautions, and in the event that your eye does get injured, be prepared with first aid knowledge that can save your vision. Be prepared and be conscious of eye safety by wearing the proper protection during sports, school and on the job.
Stock a first aid kit with a rigid eye shield and commercial eyewash before an eye injury happens. And don’t take eye injuries lightly. If not taken care of immediately and properly, they can lead to further damage inside the eye and cause problems for your vision.
When eyes come into contact with chemicals:
- Immediately flush the eye with water. Hold the eye under a faucet or shower or pour water into the eye using a clean container. Flush with water for at least 15 minutes, keeping the eye as open as possible. Do the same even if you’re wearing contact lenses. The lens might get washed out during the flushing.
- See a doctor immediately after flushing.
When particles get into the eye:
- Do not rub the eye.
- Let your tears wash out the particles or use an eyewash.
- If the particle will not dislodge, contact your ophthalmologist
When the eye gets hit or punched:
- Without applying too much pressure, put a cold compress on the eye.
- If you experience pain, cannot see well, or if the area around the eye becomes discolored, get immediate medical attention. These symptoms could mean that there is internal eye damage.
When the eye gets cut:
- Do not try to remove any objects stuck in the eye.
- Do not wash the eye.
- Without applying too much pressure, cover the eye with a rigid object such as the bottom of a paper cup.
- Seek medical attention immediately.
