Skill and Experience: Critical to Successful Epi-LASIK Surgery in CT

Epi-Lasik Surgery CT
“EPI-LASIK” is a convenient acronym for “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis” eye surgery. Epi-LASIK is certainly “cutting edge” technology, no scalpel is utilized – it is performed with a laser after the surface epithelium is mechanically removed with a blunt-tipped non-cutting epi-keratome, hence the term “Epi-LASIK”.

Epi-LASIK could free you from nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or presbyopia with the highest level of vision correction accuracy. During a free consultation, Dr. Jeffrey Gold will conduct a series of tests to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for Epi-LASIK, based on your overall health and physical condition, as well as your vision in both eyes.

If Epi-LASIK is right for you, Dr. Gold and Sylvana Kent, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, will take time to explain the procedure. Sylvana has had Epi-LASIK and so can give you a first person description. Your eye is numbed with anesthetic drops, and the lids held open with a retainer to curtail an urge to blink. Eye movement is minimized as you focus on a fixation light, and tracked by the S4 aspect of the VISX laser as Dr. Gold performs the surgery.

Utilizing an epi-keratome he will remove the epithelium from the cornea to reveal the next deeper layer. The Wavescan device scans your eye and records many points of relevant data unique to that eye. With skill that comes from years of experience and thousands of successful procedures, the doctor employs an Excimer Laser to treat each specific point indicated by this scanning technology, to properly focus incoming light to the retina. The central corneal curve is meticulously sculpted to address your specific vision condition – flattened to resolve nearsightedness, steepened for farsightedness, or rounded for astigmatism.

The eye begins to heal spontaneously as soon as you take a nap. No stitches are needed.

Epi-LASIK is an out-patient treatment. You go home wearing protective sunglasses provided by Liberty Vision. Your vision is slightly blurred for the first few days while the eye is protected with a special surgical contact lens which is placed, maintained, and then removed by Dr. Gold. You don’t have to deal with the lens. During those first three days there are virtually no restrictions in your activities. Most patients can drive and work. A series of eye drops – lubricating, anti-inflammatory, and antibiotic – are necessary following the procedure.

Epi-LASIK is an amazing advancement in modern eye care; vision correction has never been more efficient or precise. Make sure to entrust your successful outcome to the hands of a qualified healthcare professional. Call Liberty Vision today.
