Quick Tips for Contact Lens Wearers

For those of us who wear contacts, it is sometimes helpful to take a little refresher course in the do’s and don’ts of wearing them!  Wearing contact lenses properly is extremely important for your overall eye health. First, there are some ‘do’s’ that are recommended by Eye Care Magazine:  You should follow the directions that come with your lenses.  Since each lens can be slightly different, it is important to make sure that you know what your specific contacts require.  Also, washing your hands with a mild soap, and drying them with a lint free towel before touching your contacts is important.  For contacts that are extended-wear, they should be rinsed and disinfected each time they are removed from the eye.  Wearing UV protective sunglasses even when you have contacts on can help to protect the eyes’ overall health. Although we are all aware that some practices related to contacts are looked down upon, we may sometimes find ourselves doing some of the things on Eye Care Magazine’s ‘don’ts’ list.  Using tap water or saliva to clean or store your lenses is a big ‘don’t’ on the list, as this can cause contamination.  Also, stretching the time between replacing lenses, or reusing them too much could lead to an eye infection.  Last, do not use your fingernails, tweezers, or any other tool to take lenses out of their packaging, only clean, dry hands. By adhering to these do’s and don’ts, your eyes will be happy and healthy in their contact lenses!

Parking is located in the rear of the building. The entrance is under a large green awning, next to the picnic table.
